@MiamiTrack Placed Second at FSU Relays

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Miamitrack and field program closed out the 2015 FSU Relays with a strong showing at Mike Long Track on the Florida State University campus.

The Hurricanes had strong showings on both the men’s and women’s sides this weekend, placing second in both genders in team scoring. The men’s team scored 148 points, finishing four behind Ohio State, while the women finished second to Florida State with 161 points.

Jamika Glades and Kelsey Balkwill swept the women’s 400m hurdles running 59.19 and 59.83, respectively, while Robert Grant placed sixth overall in the men’s 400m hurdles with a time of 53.74 seconds.

Shakima Wimbley placed second overall in the women’s 200m with a time of 23.41 seconds and Anthony Wolliston finished sixth in the men’s 200m dash, posting a time of 22.06 seconds.

Miami’s relays were solid on Saturday as the men’s 4×100 relay team of Christian Cook, Wolliston, Grant and Jaalen Jones placed second overall with a time of 41.20 seconds. The women’s 4×100 relay team of Lateisha Philson, Kayann Richards, Glades and Trishelle Leacock placed second overall with a time of 46.50 seconds.

The men’s 4x400m relay of Henri Delauze, Robert Grant, Anthony Wolliston and Joseph Ryan placed third with a time of 3:13.74, while the women’s 4x400m relay team of Glades, Taneisha Cordell, Anthonia Moore and Wimbley finished third with a time of 3:43.74.

The Canes also excelled in the field events as Isaiah Simmons placed second in the men’s shot put with a mark of 18.88m, while Precious Ogunleye placed fourth and Tiffany Okieme finished fifth in the women’s shot put, with marks of 14.19m and 13.84m, respectively.

Miami’s jumpers had a flurry of top five finishes, led by Dakota Dailey-Harris’ second place finsih in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.73m.

John-Patrick Friday finished second in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 15.43m. Alexis Wright placed third in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 11.59m, while Niara Hill finished fourth with a jump of 11.45m.

Nick Catchur placed fourth overall in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 4.45m.

Next week, the Canes travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete at the Florida Relays on April 3-4. Miami will then host its final home meet of the 2015 outdoor season, the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 10-11.
