@HurricanesGolf in 10th at UCF Challenge
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s golf team sits in 10th place after one round at the 2015 UCF Challenge. The Canes carded an opening round score of four-over-par, 292.
The three-day event is being held at the par 72, 6,349 yard Eagle Creek Golf Course.
“Today was not a bad day, but it was not super good,” said head coach Patti Rizzo. “I feel very confident that our girls are going to make a charge tomorrow. They are fired up and ready to go.”
Sophomore Daniela Darquea (Quito, Ecuador) led the way for the Hurricanes as she shot a three-under-par score of 69. Darquea’s opening round tally of 69 marked the first time she had broken 70 this spring and the first time since the Canes’ appearance in the Windy City Collegiate Challenge this past fall.
“Daniela is such a solid player,” Rizzo said. “There are no weaknesses in her game at all.”
Senior Leticia Ras-Anderica (Moraira, Spain) posted an opening round tally of even par 72 and is currently tied for 23rd. Ras-Anderica closed out the round on a high note as she birdied both 17 and 18.
Senior Rika Park (Fujieda Shi-Shizouka, Japan), sophomore Delfina Acosta (Delfina Acosta) and junior Kailey Walsh (Boca Raton, Fla.) rounded out the Canes’ top five as they posted rounds of 74, 77 and 77, respectively.
Vanderbilt leads all teams with an 11-under-par score of 277. VU’s Kendall Martindale carded an opening round of six-under-par, 66 to pace the field.
