CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews announced the University of Miami women’s tennis team’s spring schedule Tuesday.
Coming off their ninth consecutive trip to the Sweet 16, the Hurricanes will host eight matches and a pair of tournaments at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The two tournaments will open the regular season, as the team will begin play with the Miami Spring Invite Jan. 16-18 and ITA National Indoor Kick-Off Weekend Jan. 23-26. Miami, one of 16 host sites for ITA Kick-Off Weekend, is looking to qualify for the ITA National Indoor Championships for the 11th straight season.
“We need to get off to a quick start this season,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “A lot will be determined with how tough we are early on. Kick-Off is always big because it sets us up for opportunities in February.”
After winning a share of the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2014, Miami will welcome seven ACC opponents to Coral Gables in 2015.
That group includes 2014 NCAA Tournament Elite Eight participant Duke and 2014 national runner-up North Carolina. Both of those matches will take place in a matter of three days, with the Blue Devils arriving April 2 and the Tar Heels April 4.
The Hurricanes will play eight road matches, seven against ACC teams. The ACC Championships are scheduled for April 22-26 in Cary, N.C.
“I think the team understands the importance of enjoying [winter] break, but staying focused during this time as well,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “We’re real excited to get this young team on court battling together.”
