@MiamiTrack Announces 2015 Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem announced the University of Miami 2015 track and field schedule.

The Hurricanes’ schedule is highlighted by two home meets during the outdoor season, as well as appearances at the ACC and NCAA Championships for both indoor and outdoor track and field.

“The 2015 schedule is our most competitive schedule in years,” Deem said. “Our coaching staff is excited about this year’s team and believe competing against some of the top teams in the country will give us the best opportunity to reach our goals.”

Miami’s indoor season kicks off Jan.17 as the Canes travel to State College, Pa., to participate in the Nittany Lion Challenge.

The Hurricanes will also compete at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet (Jan. 23-24), Virginia Tech Elite Meet (Feb.6-7) and the Tyson Invitational (Feb. 13-14) in preparation for the ACC Championships in Blacksburg, Va., from Feb. 27-28.  Two weeks later, the Canes will be in Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Miami opens its outdoor season with the first of two home meets, hosting the Hurricane Invitational from March 20-21. They will also host the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on April 10-11.

The final weekend of March will have the Canes competing at the Florida State Relays (Mar. 27-28) in Tallahassee, Fla. A week later, the Canes will compete at Florida Relays (Apr. 3-4). The Canes also have trips to Gainesville, Fla., and Baton Rouge, La., as they prepare for the conference and NCAA meets

Miami will return to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete at the ACC Outdoor Championships from May 14-16. A year ago, the Hurricanes had to wait over a month between the conference meet and the NCAA East Preliminary. But the 2014 ACC Outdoor Championships now slot in right before NCAAs, allowing Miami’s athletes to peak heading into the most important meets of the season.

“Moving the ACC Outdoor Championships to May allows us to prepare our student-athletes for the championship portion of our season,” Deem said.

Two weeks after ACCs, the Canes will compete at the NCAA East Preliminary in Jacksonville, Fla., from May 28-30. The top Miami performers will look to advance to the NCAA Championships, held in Eugene, Ore., from June 10-13.
