Canes Finish In Fifth At Betsy Rawls

Austin, Texas – The University of Miami golf team ended their fall season with an impressive run at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. Miami’s third-round score of 289 was the third-lowest score by any team during the tournament.

Delfina Acosta, Leticia Ras-Anderica, Kailey Walsh and Daniela Darquea each had three birdies and Christina Ocampo tacked on one of her own as the Canes tallied 13 in total to secure a fifth-place finish.

Miami led the tournament with 13 third-round birdies.

Kailey Walsh continued her strong play into Tuesday, finishing her afternoon 1-over par, on the way to her first top-10 finish of the season. The junior moved up two spots on the leaderboard to tie for sixth.

Daniela Darquea registered arguably the most impressive third round of the day. The sophomore completed her day only shooting over par once and tied San Diego State’s Emma Henrikson for the lowest third-round score, 70 (-1). Darquea’s consistency in the final round pushed her up eight spots into a tie for 11th.

Leticia Ras-Anderica had her best round of the tournament, shooting a 74 (+2). The senior climbed the player leaderboard for the second-consecutive day, moving eight spots, tying for 27th.

The biggest improvement onf day three belonged to Delfina Acosta. Acosta shot a tournament-low 72 and tied for 19th, climbing 16 positions.

This type of performance is one head coach Patti Rizzo has become accustomed to from her players.

“We are back,” Rizzo said. “This is more like the players I know. We’re looking forward to a great spring. Our top-four is playing great again.”

The Hurricanes ended their fall slate and will begin preparations for the spring season. They return to the course Monday, Jan. 6, to compete in the Florida Challenge in Lecanto, Fla.
