Lomacki No. 6 on ITA Freshman Rankings

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami freshman Piotr Lomacki is listed as the No. 6 rookie in the country, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Men’s Preseason Newcomer/Freshman Rankings.

The incoming freshman is also on the qualifying singles list for the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men’s All-American Championships, hosted by the University of Tulsa Sept. 27-Oct. 2.

“Piotr has a very complete game,” head coach Mario Rincon said. “He can generate a lot power from anywhere on the court. He’s an amazing competitor, and he is a hard worker with a lot of weapons. He’s fast and he has great hands at the net.”

Lomacki, from Warsaw, Poland, is currently ranked No. 794 in the ATP singles ranking and No. 934 in the doubles ranking. Since March, Lomacki has jumped from No. 1,204 to his current position at No. 794. He is ranked the best junior player in Poland, playing his way into the semifinals of the Poland F5 and Estonia F2 Tournaments, and the quarterfinals of the Poland F4 and Poland F3, all outdoor clay court events. In 2013 he won the Ozerov Cup in Russia and played into the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Great Britain Futures Tournament.

Catch Lomacki and the Canes in action this fall, as the team plays in 10 events in seven states. Miami opens the season this weekend (Sept. 12-15) at the Bedford Cup in Jacksonville, Fla.
