@MiamiWBB Announces Non-Conference Slate

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team will host 10 nonconference games in 2014-15, including its annual Thanksgiving and Holiday Tournaments, head coach Katie Meier announced Wednesday.

This season, the Hurricanes non-conference schedule features opponents from the Big Ten (1), SEC (1), Pac-12 (2) and the AAC (1).

 “Once again, I think we’ve challenged ourselves in the non-conference season with opponents from major conferences, postseason teams and tough road games with difficult environments,” Meier said. We do that on purpose to prepare us for ACC play, and this non-conference schedule is one of our toughest to date. With the new energy on this squad, I feel we will truly benefit from the difficulty of the schedule.”

The Canes open the season on Nov. 14 with a home contest against Oakland University, a team the Hurricanes beat on the road last season. Three days later, Miami will play its first road game against perennial Top-25 Middle Tennessee.

The Hurricanes then host two home games—North Florida (Nov. 21) and Arizona State (Nov. 25)—before they welcome Illinois State, Buffalo and Tulsa to the BankUnited Center for the Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 28-29).

Meier’s squad continues a seven-game homestand when it hosts Wisconsin in the ACC – Big Ten Challenge on Dec. 3. The Hurricanes own a 2-3 all-time record in the Challenge and have won two of their last three matchups.

In its last two home nonconference matchups before the holiday season hits, the Hurricanes play host to Jacksonville (Dec. 6) and Coppin State (Dec. 13).

After finals for the semester have concluded, the Hurricanes – alongside UCLA and Samford – will travel to New Orleans, La., for a Holiday Tournament hosted by Tulane University (Dec. 18-19).

Following a 10-day break, Miami welcomes FAMU, LSU and UNC-Greensboro to Coral Gables for its annual Holiday Tournament (Dec. 28-29).
