Jaguars Draft Linder in Third Round Friday

NEW YORK – Miami Hurricanes offensive guard Brandon Linder was selected with the 93rd overall draft pick Friday by the Jacksonville Jaguars on the second night of the 2014 NFL Draft. The Southwest Ranches, Fla., native is the first Miami Hurricane to be drafted by the Jaguars.

Linder is the first Miami offensive lineman drafted in the first three rounds since 2011, when OT Orlando Franklin was taken 46th overall (2nd round) by the Denver Broncos. With Linder’s selection, the Hurricanes have now had at least one player drafted in 40 straight years.

Linder concluded his career with 37 consecutive starts, moving between right guard and right tackle. As a senior in 2013, he was a second-team All-ACC selection by both ACSMA and the league’s head coaches. He was one of three Hurricanes invited to the Senior Bowl and one of five players invited to the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. He was named the team’s Offensive MVP at the end-of-season awards show.

As a junior in 2012, he started all 12 games at right guard and earned All-ACC honorable mention from ACSMA and the league’s head coaches.

The final day of the 2014 NFL Draft will begin at noon Saturday on ESPN and NFL Network with rounds 4-7. Follow us on Twitter, @CanesFootball, for the latest #NFLDraft updates for the remaining potential #ProCanes.
