No. 26 Golf Finishes Ninth at SDSU Farms

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Four Miami Hurricanes each shot a final-round 75 as the 26th-ranked women’s golf team finished ninth Wednesday at the SDSU Farms Invitational.

Miami matched its second-round tally with a 300 to finish at 39-over 903. USC was the lone team to finish the tournament under par, winning the team title at 3-under 861. UCLA and Stanford tied for second at even-par 864.

USC’s Karen Chung took home individual medalist honors, finishing at 8-under 208.

“Today was better (than Tuesday’s round),” head coach Patti Rizzo said. “If we can rid ourselves of the high numbers each round, we can be right in contention. Rookie mistakes – it will come in time.”

Sophomore Kailey Walsh, freshman Daniela Darquea, junior Leticia Ras-Anderica and junior Rika Park each carded final-round 75s. Walsh, who held a share of the lead through 18 holes, tied for 24th overall at 7-over 223. Darquea finished with an 8-over 224 to tie for 27th, while Ras-Anderica finished 29th at 9-over 225.

Park tied for 49th at 16-over 232. Freshman Delfina Acosta shot a final-round 79 to finish 75th overall at 25-over 241.

“The course for the ACC Championship is similar to this one, so we will need to focus more and avoid the big mistakes,” Rizzo said. “Our team is improving each week. It’s just about getting them all to play well at the same time.”

With its regular season now concluded, the Miami Hurricanes will return to the course April 17-19 at the 2014 ACC Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
