Walsh Tied Atop Leaderboard at SDSU Farms
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Miami Hurricanes sophomore golfer Kailey Walsh is tied atop the leaderboard Monday after the first round at the SDSU Farms Invitational.
Walsh, San Diego State’s Emma Henrikson and UCLA’s Alison Lee are all tied at 4-under 68, holding a one-stroke lead over Stanford’s Lauren Kim and UCLA’s Erynne Lee. The first-round score was Walsh’s lowest of the season and the second-lowest of her career; she carded a 67 last season as a freshman at Georgia.
After 18 holes, the Hurricanes are tied with Cal for seventh overall at 15-over 303. UCLA is the lone team under par Monday at 3-under 285 and own a five-stroke lead over second-place Stanford (2-over 290). San Diego State (4-over 292), Arizona State (7-over 295) and USC (10-over 298) round out the top five.
A sophomore from Boca Raton, Walsh blistered the course, shooting 6-under through the first 13 holes before she bogeyed the par-4 No. 15. After a par on No. 16, she posted a double-bogey on the par-4 No. 17, but she later recovered on No. 18 with a birdie to finish at 4-under.
Freshman Daniela Darquea, who has won each of her last two tournaments, and junior Leticia Ras-Anderica are tied for 41st at 5-over 77. Junior Rika Park is in 68th at 9-over 81, while freshman Delfina Acosta is in 76th at 11-over 83.
The second round of the 2014 SDSU Farms Invitational tees off Tuesday at 11 a.m. ET from The Farms in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Live scoring is available at www.birdiefire.com.
