NORMAN, Okla. – After an impressive showing in their first day at the NIKE Invitational, the University of Miami volleyball program battled, but fell short in their match against Tulsa.

The Canes played tough against the Golden Hurricane, but Tulsa edged Miami in three sets 25-23, 26-24, 25-21. The Hurricanes finish their nonconference slate 7-3 heading into ACC play next week.

Miami tallied 42 kills over three sets, with junior setter Blair Fuentez collecting36 assists in the match. Middle blocker Alexis Mourning led the Hurricanes with 15 kills, while fellow junior Emani Sims added nine and senior Alex Johnson chipped in with seven kills.

Defensively, senior libero Ryan Shaffer paced the Hurricanes with 17 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Misty Ma’a tallied eight digs and added three blocks. Sims was Miami’s top blocker, picking up eight against Tulsa.

The Hurricanes open ACC play on Sept. 28 at Boston College. Their next home match is scheduled for Oct. 11 against Pitt. Miami will host the Panthers at 7 p.m. at the Knight Complex.
