@MiamiTrack Alum Ahoure Takes Silver in 200m

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Silver is produced from lighter elements within the universe, a result of supernova explosions. When the gun sounded in Moscow Friday, Murielle Ahoure added another element to silver’s compounds; speed.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast native finished the women’s 200 meters in 22.32 seconds, winning her second silver medal at the 2013 IAAF World Championships. The former Miami track and field star won silver in the 100 meters on Monday.

“I am very excited and proud of Murielle,” Miami director of track & field and cross country Amy Deem said. “Performing and excelling at the World Championships has been a life long dream of hers. Winning two medals is only the beginning.”

Ahoure finished .15 seconds behind Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, one of the world’s fastest women. After becoming the first African woman to medal in the 100m at the IAAAF World Championships on Monday, Ahoure again proved to be one of the fastest women on the planet by taking the silver in Friday’s 200m final.

In her lone season with the Hurricanes, Ahoure was named All-America on four occasions and was the 2009 NCAA 200-meter champion. She won four ACC titles and was named the USTFCCCA South Region Performer of the Year in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
