Three Track Standouts Earn All-Academic

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Dakota Dailey-Harris, Jamika Glades and Lea Johnson were named to the 2013 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team.

The three University of Miami track and field student-athletes were among the 710 women from 187 institutions to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for their combined efforts in competition and in the classroom.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).

Dailey-Harris picked up her first award after a strong freshman season. Her mark of 1.78m in the women’s indoor high jump at the New Mexico Classic ranked 40th in the country. The Providence, R.I., native placed fifth in the women’s high jump at the U.S. Junior Championships, clearing an outdoor-best 1.75m. She also won the women’s high jump twice, posting the top mark at the Miami Hurricane Invitational and Miami Invitational. The sociology major was successful in the classroom, earning a 3.28 GPA.

Glades shined in her first season in Coral Gables. The freshman’s time of 8.52 seconds in the 60m hurdles at the 2013 ACC Indoor Championships ranked 96th in the country. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native earned All-ACC Academic honors after an indoor season that included six top-five finishes. The accounting major earned a 3.39 GPA in her first year as a collegiate student-athlete.

Johnson was an NCAA outdoor qualifier in the women’s hammer throw and posted a personal-best mark of 56.54m at the 2013 NCAA East Preliminary. The St. Louis, Mo., native also ranked among the Top 96 in the women’s weight throw with a personal-best mark of 18.85m. The sophomore earned All-ACC Academic honors for both the indoor and outdoor seasons and was also named to the Capitol One Academic All-District team. A microbiology & immunology major, Johnson carries a 3.94 GPA.
