El-Sabawi and Johnson Named All-ACC Academic
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami track and field program had two student-athletes named to the 2013 All-ACC Track and Field Academic Team.
Bassim El-Sabawi was one of 44 men’s honorees, while Lea Johnson was among the 48 distinguished female student-athletes. To be eligible for All-ACC Academic Team consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during their academic career.
El-Sabawi is a two-time honoree, earning All-ACC Academic honors a year ago. The junior, who also earned All-ACC Academic honors during the indoor season, ran a season-best 10.75 in the 100m at the ACC Outdoor Championships. The chemistry major also ran the 200m and was a member of both the 4×100 and 4x400m relays.
Johnson pairs her All-ACC Academic honors with the same award from the 2013 indoor season. The sophomore thrower shined this past season, posting five top-three finishes on the season in the women’s hammer throw. Johnson, who ranks third in Miami history in the women’s hammer, threw a personal best of 56.54m at the NCAA Division I East Preliminary. The St. Louis, Mo., native majors in microbiology & immunology.
