Canes Track Wraps Up 2013 Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Miami track and field program wrapped up its 2013 appearance at the Penn Relays with another Top-10 finish.

One day after placing sixth in the men’s long jump, John-Patrick Friday earned another Top-10 finish. The freshman placed 10th in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 46’ 10.25”.

Timothy Richardson also competed in the men’s triple jump. The sophomore was 15th with a mark of 45’ 8.5” Richardson placed 10th in the men’s long jump on Friday.

Miami wraps up the 2013 Penn Relays with 10 Top-10 finishes among its student-athletes. Redshirt freshman Isaiah Simmons led the group, winning the men’s discus (175’ 8”) and placing sixth in men’s shot put (60’ 3”).

Other standouts include the women’s sprint medley team of redshirt freshman Kelsey Balkwill, sophomore Jokira Jiles, sophomore Taneisha Cordell and junior Alaine Tate. The quartet combined to run the medley in 3:50.72.

Sophomore Lea Johnson also had another strong showing, finishing third in the women’s collegiate hammer throw with a mark of 179’. Fellow thrower Amber Monroe placed sixth in the women’s discus with a mark of 158’ 9”.

Friday and Richardson were not the only Hurricane jumpers to have success in Philadelphia.

Sophomore Innocent Jacob placed third in men’s long jump with a mark of 23’ 5.25”, while senior Samantha Williams finished 10th in the women’s triple jump, clearing 38’ 4”.
