Canes Track Wraps Up Florida Relays
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field program rounded out their 2013 appearance at the Florida Relays with a solid showing on Saturday.
Miami’s women placed third in the 1600m sprint medley. The quartet of Alyssa McClure, Jokira Jiles, Taneisha Cordell and Alaine Tate finished the medley in 3:50.17. A second Miami medley relay group placed seventh with a time of 3:58.01.
Greg Kaczka, Joseph Ryan, Tequille Jackson and Bassim El-Sabawi competed for Miami in the men’s 1600m sprint medley, finishing in 3:30.43.
The women’s 4x400m relay team placed 20th out of 49 as Shannon Wright, Cordell, Tate and Jiles combined to post a time of 3:42.03.
Lea Johnson was Miami’s top individual competitor on Saturday. The sophomore placed fourth in the women’s hammer throw with a toss that traveled 172’ 6”. Johnson’s throw was just short of her personal-best 173’ 3”, set at the Miami Invitational two weeks ago.
Standout thrower Isaiah Simmons placed sixth in the men’s shot put invite division with a throw of 60’ 2.5”, while Amber Monroe competed in women’s shot put. Her throw of 43’ 1.75’ was third-best among competitors from ACC schools.
Miami also had some success in the triple jump as senior Samantha Williams cleared 40’ 11.5” to place ninth.
On the men’s side, sophomore Timothy Richardson and freshman John-Patrick Friday competed in the triple jump. Richardson cleared, 47’ 4.25”, while Friday covered 47’ 8.25”.
