WBB Great Robin Harmony Named an ACC Legend

GREENSBORO, N.C.  – ­­­TheAtlantic Coast Conference announced its ninth annual class of ACC Women’sBasketball Legends on Wednesday and Miami great Robin Harmony will beamong the honorees. The Legends Class of 2013 will be honored at the 2013 ACCWomen’s Basketball Tournament, which will be held March 7-10 at the GreensboroColiseum.

Oneof the greatest players in Hurricane history, Harmony was inducted into theMiami Sports Hall of Fame on April 14, 1997. Her collegiate career still ranksamong the program’s all-time best, as she is listed among the top 10 in gamesplayed, games started, field goals made, field goals attempted, assists andsteals.

TheHershey, Pa., native was the first player in Miami women’s basketball historyto record 1,000 points, 750 rebounds, 400 assists and 300 steals during hercareer. One of the longer standing records in the historyof Miami women’s basketball is most assists in a single game, whichwas established by Harmony during her junior season when she had 14 againstcross-town FIU on Dec. 4, 1982.

Inher four years as a player, Miami went 76-50, including a 24-15record her freshman year. The 24 overall wins set a program single seasonrecord, which stood until 1989-90 when Miami went 25-6 with Harmonyas an assistant coach.

In1984, Harmony received her B.S. in Education and Recreation and then traveledabroad to England as a player/coach for the Avon Cosmetics BasketballClub. Avon would go on to win the league championship with Harmony as theMost Valuable Player. Harmony spent 20 years on the Miami coaching staff andwas named the first ever head coach of St. Thomas University’swomen’s basketball team, where she has since guided the program to four 20-winseasons and three conference titles.

TheLegends will be honored at the annual ACC Women’s Basketball Legends’ Brunch onSaturday, March 9 at 10 a.m., and then will be introduced to the Coliseum crowdat halftime of the first semifinal game on Saturday, March 9. The ACC Women’sBasketball Legends program honors both players and coaches from each of theACC’s 12 schools who have contributed to the league’s rich tradition.
