Williams, Simmons Lead T&F at Auburn Invite

BIRMINGHAM,Ala. – Senior All-American SamanthaWilliams and freshman standout IsaiahSimmons shined, as the Miami track and field program competed in the AuburnInvitational at CrossPlex Indoor Track & Field Center.

Williamstraveled 42′ 5.5″ (12.94m) to win the triple jump in a field of 21 competitors. The senioralso placed eighth in the long jump, covering 19′ 0.5″ (5.80m), while junior NicoleCummings finished 11th with a jump of 18′ 6″ (5.64m).

Simmonswas the star for the men, breaking his own shot put record with a throw of59′ 7.5″ (18.17m). A week ago, Simmons broke the Miami indoor shot put record with a throwof 58′ 7″ (17.87m).

Simmons,who placed second in the shot put for the second consecutive week, was not theonly Hurricane to set a new personal record.

JuniorSeanPezzulo placed ninth in the men’s 3000m, setting a personal record with atime of 8:41.84, while senior GregKaczka finished fourth in the men’s mile, setting a new personal recordwith a time of 4:12:08. Kaczka’s time ranks second in Miami history to ConnorAdams, who ran the indoor mile in 4:11.91 on Feb. 3, 2012 at the Virginia TechElite Meet.

Kaczkawas also part of the Miami team that placed fourth in the 4000m DMR. The seniorran the opening leg of the medley followed by sophomores DavinJohnson and DouglasDourado. Junior LukeFontaine finished the race to give Miami a 10:16.97 time.

FreshmanJohn-PatrickFriday finished seventh in the men’s triple jump (47′ 11″), while sophomore InnocentJacob placed tenth in the long jump (22′ 8″).

PhillipDorsett was Miami’s top finisher in the men’s 60m with a time of 6.93 seconds,but did not qualify for the final. Dorsett also ran the opening leg for Miami’s4x400m relay team that placed ninth with a time of 3:21.11.

Forthe women, sophomore TaneishaCordell and junior AlaineTate finish sixth and seventh overall in the women’s 800m. The pairfinished almost simultaneously, with Cordell running the 800m in 2:12.16 andTate finishing in 2:12.29.

Bothwomen’s 4×400 teams finished in the top 10 on Saturday. Cordell,Tate andsophomores JokiraJiles and ShannonWright finished fourth with a time of 3:44.81. The quartet of freshman JamikaGlades, sophomore JasmyneKing and juniors AlyssaMcClure and LindsiArrington placed ninth with a time of 3:52.17.

McClurealso qualified for the finals in the 60m dash, finishing eighth with a time of7.49 seconds. The junior placed sixth in prelims with a time of 7.46 seconds.

Apair of young Hurricanes placed in the top 10 in their events. Sophomore AmberMonroe placed sixth in women’s shot put, setting a personal record with athrow of 43′ 3″ (13.18m) and freshman DakotaDailey-Harris placed seventh in the women’s high jump, clearing 5′ 5.75″ (1.67m).
