Deem & Young to Speak at USTFCCCA Convention
ORLANDO– Director of track and field/cross country Amy Deem and throwing coach Cory Young are scheduled to share their insights at the annual U.S. Track &Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Convention Dec. 15-20 inOrlando. The conference, which will take place at the JW Marriott, will featurehigh school and college coaches from across the nation.
Deem, who is in her 22nd seasonat Miami, will speak on sprints and hurdles at her symposium Dec. 17 at 3 p.m.Having at least one All-American in each of her 21 years, she is considered oneof the top coaches in world on sprints and hurdles. Over the summer, Deem servedas the head women’s track and field coach for Team USA at the Olympic Games inLondon. Her squad brought home 14 medals in dominating fashion, including sixgold medals. All three of her Miami alums competing – Murielle Ahoure (100m,200m), T’erea Brown (400m hurdles) and Lauryn Williams (4x100m relay) -reached the finals of their events.
Young joined the UM staff in the fall as anassistant coach specializing in throws. He coached two athletes to All-Americastatus at Kentucky last season and totaled 33 All-Americans and four nationalchampions during his previous five-year tenure at Grand Valley State. Younghelped the Lakers capture the 2011 NCAA Division II National Indoor Track &Field Championships behind a strong performance from the throwing athletes. Hewill speak on his topic Dec. 19 at 8:30 a.m.

The Hurricanes will begin the indoor trackand field season Jan. 11 at the Kentucky Invitational.
