Women's Golf Finishes 12th at Mercedes-Benz

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Miami Hurricanes women’s golf team concluded its fall schedule Sunday with a 12th-place finish at the 16th annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship. 

Miami entered the final day in 12th place, but was unable to make up any ground as the Hurricanes shot a final-round 308 to finish at 54-over 918. Second-round leader Penn State (3-over 867) shot a final-round 287 to best host Tennessee (7-over 871) for the title, winning by a four-stroke margin. Purdue finished one stroke behind Tennessee for third at 8-over 872, while Northwestern (10-over 874) and Texas A&M (12-over 876) rounded out the top five. 

Sophomore Rika Park was Miami’s top finisher, tying for 32nd overall with six other golfers after carding a final-round 76 to finish at 8-over 224. Teammates Leticia Ras-Anderica and Christina Ocampo tied for 56th overall at 9-over 225. 

Junior Carina Cuculiza tied for 66th after a final-round 75, her best round of the tournament; Cuculiza tied for 66th at 20-over 236. On her 19th birthday, freshman Laura Hendee shot a final-round 79 to finish tied for 62nd at 18-over 234. Freshman Lauren Riehle shot a 78 to tie for 68th overall at 21-over 237. 

With its fall slate in the books, the Miami Hurricanes women’s golf team will return to the links Feb. 4-5 for the spring-opening Hurricane Invitational at Deering Bay Yacht & Country Club.
