Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at UNCG
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Rika Park led the University of Miami women’s golf team to a seventh-place finish Tuesday at the UNCG Starmount Forest Invitational.
Park, a native of Fujieda Shi-Shizouka, Japan, shot 8-over 221 to tie for 12th overall, posting her second consecutive top-20 finish. Fellow sophomore Leticia Ras-Anderica, who entered the final round tied for 16th with Park, shot a final-round 77 to tie for 21st overall at 12-over 225.
“I had a solid game, but I’m never satisfied with it,” Park said. “If I’m happy with how I’m playing, then it means it can’t get better. I just have to keep getting better every tournament.”
Tampa, Fla., freshman Lauren Riehle fired a career-best 72 in the final round to finish at 20-over 233, tied for 52nd overall. Teammates Laura Hendee (22-over 235) and Christina Ocampo (23-over 236) finished 59th and 61st, respectively.
Playing as an individual and in her first tournament of the season, junior Carina Cuculiza tied for 56th overall, shooting 21-over 234.
“I’m still adjusting, but I feel that I’m almost there,” Cuculiza said. “I think I need a couple more rounds and I’ll be all set.”
Next up for the Hurricanes is the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Intercollegiate (Oct. 12-14) at the Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. For the latest information, follow the official Twitter feed for Miami Hurricanes women’s golf, @HurricanesGolf.
