CHAPEL HILL, N.C – TheMiami Hurricanes soccer team fell behind early and could not recover in time,as the Canes dropped a conference match-up with No. 13 North Carolina 6-1 onSunday afternoon at Fetzer Field.

“Today was a lesson for us all,” head coach Tom Anagnost said. “Everything that UNC displayed is what we aspire to be; they were competitive, focused, and unrelentingly aggressive.”

Ali Brennan‘s lone goal on a free kick in the 76thminute was too little, too late, as the talented Tar Heels’ offense carried therun of play. Goals from UNC’s Kealia Ohai and Amber Brooks within the game’sfirst ten minutes set Miami back on an early deficit, and a second-half flurryfrom the Heels helped secure a victory for the homestanding side (6-3-2, 2-2-1ACC).

“I want to give the University of North Carolina all the credit today,” Anagnost added. “Mentally, physically, psychologically, technically, and tactically they were clearly far superior.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Lillard (4-5-1) recorded sevensaves on the night, while freshman Paula Forero Cabrera recorded one of her ownafter entering the game in the 73rd minute.

After taking down NC State for a key conference win onFriday night, Miami dropped to 6-5-1 overall and 1-3 in the ACC with Sunday’sloss to UNC.

“All of the coaches and players on this team must learnfrom this and strive for a much higher standard, which was shown to ustoday,” Anagnost said. “The leadership must get strongerto be able to hold the team accountable so the level is always high.”

The Hurricanes return to action next Sunday, Oct. 7, withanother conference match-up against Clemson.
