Canes Top Middle Tennessee, 3-1
LOUISVILLE,Ky. – Sophomore Emani Sims topped her career-high 17 killsyesterday with 18 on Saturday, leading the University of Miami women’svolleyball team over Middle Tennessee at the Louisville Tournament inside theKFC Yum! Center.
With the victory, the Canes (9-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast) havenow won 14 straight matches at a neutral site, winning by set scores of 26-28,25-19, 25-22 and 26-24. The Blue Raiders of the Sun Belt Conference moved to3-11 overall.
Sims, along with two other Miami Hurricanes, registereddouble-digit kills in the match. Junior Taylor Hollins and freshman AlexisMourning each tallied 16 kills, with Mourning’s being a career-best to go alongwith her five blocks. Sims and Hollins notched five and three blocks,respectively.
Senior setter Nrithya Sundararaman followed up her 49assists a day ago with 51 on Saturday, a season high. In addition, she recordedtwo total blocks and 12 digs in an all-around effort.
Junior Ryan Shaffer led the Canes with 19 digs from thelibero position.
The Hurricanes will finish the Louisville Tournament tonightat 7:30 p.m. against No. 12 Louisville. Miami is 1-0 against ranked foes thisseason, beating No. 6 Florida State on Sept. 7.
