EUGENE, Ore. – University of Miami alum Lauryn Williams finished sixth in the finals of the women’s 100m dash with a time of 11.18 at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on the campus of the University of Oregon Saturday. The placing put the sprinter into consideration for the 4×100 relay team at this summer’s Olympic Games in London that will be selected at a later date.

Williams registered a mark of 11.15 in the semifinals earlier in the day, third in heat two, to qualify for the finals in front of a record crowd of 21,795 at Hayward Field. She was the top American performer in this event in the past two Olympics.

“I of course came to make the team but have no regrets on my performance,” said Williams following the competition. “I have been blessed to do the 100 two times [at the Olympic Games] and maybe this time God has something different in store for me. The 200 is just a few days away so we will see what happens. I am looking forward to my chance at redemption.”

The preliminaries of the 200m dash will be held on June 28 at 9:45 p.m. (EST).

Four other current and former Hurricanes will compete at the Trials. Rising junior Thandi Stewart and alums Ti’erra Brown and Dominique Darden will run in the 400m hurdles preliminaries on June 28 at 9:45 p.m. (EST). Recent graduate Devon Hill will participate in the 110m hurdles preliminaries on June 29 at 7:05 p.m. (EST).
