Canes Complete Round One of NCAA Regionals

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Two University of Miami Hurricanes began their postseason quest during today’s action in the NCAA Central Regional at the Ohio State University Golf Club in Columbus, Ohio.

Rika Park and Leticia Ras-Anderica both earned their spot at Regionals by leading the Canes to impressive finishes during the 2011-12 regular season. Park’s first round ended seven-strokes over par. Her first round included seven par’s on No. 4, 5, 6, 12, 13, 15 and 17 and birdies on No. 9, 14 and 16.

Starting off the back nine, fellow freshman Ras-Anderica made par on No. 10, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 and birdied No. 13. Ras-Anderica had four pars and a birdie after the turn. She is just one stroke back of teammate Park at eight-over with two rounds left to play.

The top individual finishers were Nebraska senior Madeleine Sheils and Golfstat.com’s No. 8-ranked Alexandria Buelow (Stetson ), who both shot 72.

At the end of round one, No. 3 Southern Cal leads the field after carding a team 10-over 298. No. 9 Georgia is one stroke behind and Purdue is in third place.

The top two of the six individuals will move on to the NCAA Nationals held at the Legends Club of Vanderbilt in Franklin, Tenn., May 22-25.
