CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Miami men’s and women’s track and field team said goodbye to 14 seniors as they wrapped up their home season this Saturday at The Hurricane Alumni Invitational.
What started as a windy day with light showers ended with a clear but breezy evening for the current Canes, former alumni, and several other schools competing in the meet.
The women’s discus started things off right with freshman Amber Monroe winning the event and taking a season personal and team best with a 47.80 meter toss. The Canes then took two and three to sweep the event, with Miranda Wilson and Ashley Holmes, respectively. Monroe took fourth in the shot put as well. Rounding out a solid showing in the field for the women, Holmes took first in the hammer throw and Wilson followed in at third.
On the track, Sophomore Thandi Stewart went 58.50 in the 400-meter hurdles and took first in the event against the other collegians, beating her previous week’s time.
For the men, freshman Christian Cook came in second among the collegians racing in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 54.13.
In the men’s 4×100 meter relay, the Miami A team consisting of Cook, seniors Jason Johnson and Devon Hill and sophomore Bassim El-Sabawi had a solid showing and finished with a time of 40.72.
For the longer races of the day, Junior Allison Ludwick placed third in the 1500-meter run and freshman Jacee Janrigen took third in the 3000 meters.
