Canes Finish Seventh in Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational
Oct. 2, 2011
LEXINGTON, Ky.– Miami freshman Leticia Ras-Anderica saved her best for last with a two-over par final round in route to a season high third-place individual finish in the final round of the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
In their third tournament of the year, the Hurricanes shot a 313 on the day and a three-round score of 947. That was good for seventh place in the tournament.
“We didn’t play that badly today,” said UM head women’s golf coach Patti Rizzo. “Leticia and Rika finished in the top 10 again, which means we are on our way. It’s just a matter of time before we get to the top again. We still very positive.”
Kentucky won the tournament with a 60-over par 924. UCF (932), Augusta State (940), Michigan (944) and Illinois (945) rounded out the top five.
Ras-Anderica finished the tournament at 12-over par and shot an even-par 36 on the back nine Sunday. She had two birdies and scored par on 13 of the 18 holes. Ras-Anderica’s third place finish was the best of any golfer this year.
Senior Jennifer Hirano shot a five-over par 77 on Sunday, which included three birdies and finished 27th in the tournament.
Freshman Rika Park shot an eight-over par 80. Park birdied once and was able to notch a 10th place finish on the weekend.
Sophomore Carina Cuculiza shot a 10-over par 82 on the day and senior Patricia Arana shot a 12-over par 84, including three birdies.
The Canes will compete in their final tournament of the fall season, starting on October 24 in the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
