CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami volleyball head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch collected her 200th career victory Friday night on the strength of a 3-0 sweep over Auburn in the fourth match of the 2011 Hurricane Invitational at the James L. Knight Sports Complex.

Miami (8-0) recorded its third win this season over a Southeastern Conference (SEC) opponent courtesy a 25-14, 25-22, 25-16 win against the Tigers. It was the fourth sweep in the last five matches for Miami.

Senior All-America outside hitter Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) recorded the double-double Friday night as she registered 11 kills and 12 digs. Additionally, she recorded a match-high two service aces and collected two block assists.

The Canes made a statement right from the start as Carico registered five kills in the opening set. She hit .417 in the frame and the Hurricanes defense limited Auburn (5-3) to just .091 hitting on the way to a 25-14 win.

Sophomore libero Ryan Shaffer (San Jose, Calif.) picked up 10 digs in the opening frame for UM.

In the second set, UMiami jumped out to a quick 8-2 advantage behind two kills from senior setter Katie Gallagher (Winter Park, Fla.) and two more from Carico. The Tigers cut into the lead late with blocks from Amila Jersonky and Kathia Rud to pull their team to within 19-16. The Tigers closed the gap even further at 20-18 after a kill from Sarah Bullock.

Bullock led all Tigers in the match with eight kills.

Another kill from Gallagher and a kill from Carico held off the Auburn comeback attempt, 25-22.

It was all Miami in the third set as Shaffer served six consecutive points to start the frame, and the Hurricanes never looked back as they blew away with a 25-16 win.

Auburn used two setters to pace the offense on the night as Chelsea Wintzinger (22 assists) and Christina Solverson (10 assists) setup the attack. Libero Sarah Wroblicky led all Tigers with 14 digs.

Johnson led all players for UMiami with 13 kills and added six digs. Gallagher quarterbacked the offense with a match-high 34 assists, four kills, seven digs and two blocks. Senior middle blocker Ali Becker (Katy, Texas) finished with nine kills and two blocks.
