NEW ORLEANS – The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams have been named 2011 Division I All-Academic Teams by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The men’s team was one of 90 teams nationwide to earn the distinction as a result of a team GPA of 3.0 or better, while the women’s squad was one of 164 to be honored.
Texas and Oklahoma were selected as the USTFCCCA Women’s Track and Field Scholar Team of the Year for the indoor and outdoor seasons respectively, while BYU and Florida State claimed the same honors for the men’s teams.
Scholar teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.
The 2011 track season saw Ti’erra Brown win her first NCAA title in the 400m hurdles, while Takecia Jameson earned second team honors in the same event. On the men’s side, Devon Hill earned All-America during the indoor season, finishing third in the 60m hurdles. The rising senior also earned second team honors in the 110m hurdles in June.
