The first four inductees into the University of Miami Football Ring of Honor – QB George Mira (1961-63), HB Jim Dooley (1949-51), DE Ted Hendricks (1966-68) and QB Vinny Testaverde (1982-86) – were recognized on November 1, 1997, during halftime of the Miami/Arkansas State game.
In addition to their names adorning the facade of the Orange Bowl, these four former Hurricanes had their jerseys retired at the ceremony. They are the only football jersey numbers retired by the University of Miami.
