BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – University of Miami junior hurdler Devon Hill set a new record in the 110m hurdles as three Hurricanes advanced to the NCAA National Championships in the third and final day of competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex on Saturday.

“I am extremely proud of the hurdlers,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “They stepped up and competed hard this weekend to advance to the NCAA National Championship’s final rounds.”

Hill punched his ticket to the championships as he won the first of three quarterfinal heats by crossing the finish line in 13.54 seconds – 0.11 seconds better than the previous school record held by Cory Nelms. In fact, the time was the fastest in the East Preliminary Rounds and is currently the 11th-fastest among collegiate hurdlers this year.

“Devon not only had the fastest qualifying time, but he broke the school record in the process,” added Deem. “He is getting better with every race.”

Both Brown and Jameson were in the third and final national quarterfinal heat. To advance they had to finish in the top 3 or be among the next three fastest times. Brown was third in the heat at 13.05 seconds. Jameson finished fifth at 13.28 seconds but earned the 12th and final spot with the effort, which was the best of the senior’s career.

“I really felt Takecia could advance in both the 100 and 400m hurdles,” said Deem. She really attacked the hurdles and came up with a big personal best.”

On Friday, Jameson and Brown each advanced to the championships in the 400m hurdles as well. Jameson ran her season-best time in the event at 56.54 seconds, winning the first of three quarterfinal heats. Brown, UM’s five-time All-America selection circled the track in 56.67 seconds.

The NCAA Championships will be held in Des Moines, Iowa on the campus of Drake University, June 8-11.
