McCarthy

UM Draft Recap: Franklin in 2nd | Harris in 2nd | Hankerson in 3rd | DVD in 3rd | Bailey in 3rd

Former Miami linebacker Colin McCarthy became the sixth Hurricane taken in the 2011 NFL Draft when he was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the 109th overall selection in the fourth round.

McCarthy joins five of his former teammates who were selected on Friday in either the second or third rounds. Orlando Franklin (2nd round to Denver) was the first Cane taken off the board this year, then came Brandon Harris (2nd round to Houston), Leonard Hankerson (3rd round to Washington), DeMarcus Van Dyke (81st to Oakland) and Allen Bailey (89th to Kansas City).

Through the first three rounds, Miami was tied with LSU in having the most players selected nationally.

McCarthy spent most of his UM career at strongside linebacker before moving to the middle his senior seasons. In 49 career games, he recorded 308 tackles (165 solo) and 34 tackles for a loss. The two-time ACC honoree led UM in tackles in 2010, recording 119 in 12 games. He finished the season third in the ACC in tackles and 21st nationally.

McCarthy joins former UM defensive lineman Kareem Brown on the current Titans roster.

He also becomes the 10th Cane drafted by the Tennesse Titans/Houston Oilers all-time. McCarthy’s former linebackers coach Micheal Barrow also joined the organization through the draft.
