Hurdlers Lead Canes in Second Day of ACC Championships

DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Miami Track and Field team saw its hurdlers shine in the second of the three day ACC Track and Field Championships at Duke’s Wallace Wade Stadium on Friday.
Ti’erra Brown came into the weekend as the most decorated hurdler in the conference and she proved it by running the fastest time in the qualifying heats of both the 100 and 400m hurdles at 13.25 and 58.39 seconds respectively. Takecia Jameson also advanced with times of 13.72 and 58.58.
The seniors will race in the finals of both events tomorrow at 4:40 p.m. (100m hurdles) and 6 p.m. (400m hurdles). Brown is also scheduled to run a leg in the 4×400 relay at 7:40 p.m.
Freshman Thandi Stewart will join the seniors in the 400m hurdle final after she circled the track in 59.51 seconds. The Canes are are the only program to have three women competing in the final – Virginia will have to women in the final.
On the men’s side, junior Devon Hill maintained the Hurricanes’ dominance in the hurdle events as he too qualified for Saturday’s finals in both the 110 and 400m hurdles. The Trenton, N.J. native ran the second-best time in the 110m at 14.18 and the fifth-best time in the 400m at 53.86 seconds. His final appearances are scheduled for 4:50 p.m. and 6:10 p.m.
Kyla Buckley earned her first career All-ACC honor when she placed third in the shot put with a personal-best mark of 15.63m (51-03.50) – earning six points for her team.
Freshman Nicole Cummings scored in her first outdoor championships, placing fifth in the long jump with a collegiate-best mark of 6.03m (19-09.50).
In her final conference meet, senior Katharine Woodard broke her own school record in the steeplechase for the second time this season. She finished the 3,000m race in 11:22.71.
