Hurricanes Wrap Up Competition at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It was a rather light day of competition for University of Miami track and field team but that didn’t stop the Hurricanes’ relay teams from producing high quality marks on day two of the 67th Pepsi Florida Relays on Percey Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium Saturday.
The women’s 4x100m relay team of Charlene Fuller, Ashley Dukes, Takecia Jameson and Alyssa McClure, with a time of 44.95, finished seventh in the event while the men’s 4x800m relay squad, consisting of Luke Fontaine, Greg Kaczka, Connor Adams and Evan Hadrick earned eighth place with their time of 7:59.43.
The ‘Canes women’s 4x400m relay team Thandi Stewart, Jameson, McClure and Ti’erra Brown sprinted toward a 3:40.36 time which placed them 10th in the event.
Elsewhere on the track, the men’s 1,600 sprint medley relay, made up of Bassim El-Sabawi, Jason Johnson, Garrett Nygren and Austin Rector placed 17th after clocking a time of 3:31.94 in the run.
In total, seven UM individuals and relay teams placed in the Top 10 in their respective events over the course of the two-day competition, including senior All-American Ti’erra Brown whose 56.91 time on the women’s 400m hurdles was the best in the event on Friday.
The ‘Canes return home to Cobb Stadium for the Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Saturday, April 16 in Coral Gables, Fla. The meet will mark the team’s final competition before the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships in Durham, N.C. on April 21-23.
