Seniors Michel and Woodard Lead `Canes at First Day of UCF Invite

ORLANDO – Senior Charles Michel earned his first individual victory of the outdoor season with his 32:16.75 performance in the 10,000m run at the first day of the UCF Invitational at the UCF Track and Field Complex on Friday.
The Hurricanes’ Katharine Woodard also broke her own school record when she crossed the finish line in 11:34.81 – shaving more than 30 seconds off of her previous best time.
Other Top 5 performances on the day belonged to Jason Johnson in the long jump (4th – 6.73m, 22-01.00) and Sean Pezzulo in the men’s steeplechase (4th – 10:19.96).
Saturday’s action begins early with field events at 9 a.m. Running events get underway at 12 p.m.
Ashley Holmes, who was the team’s top finisher last week in the discus, will be competing in the event on Saturday as well as the shotput.
Freshmen Lindsi Arrington and Cummings each made their collegiate home debuts at the Hurricane Invitational and each came away with victories, as Arrington won the 1,500m run and Cummings earned a title in the heptathlon.
Arrington will again run in the 1,500m while Cummings is scheduled to compete in the 100m hurdles, long jump and shot put.
Luke Fontaine and Brian Laskowski each finished second in their events last week and each will aim for victory on Saturday in the 1,500m and 800m runs respectively.
