STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. – Patricia Arana’s hole-in-one on the par three eighth hole was not enough to lift the University of Miami past 15th place after two rounds of play at the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. on Monday.

After a 45-minute fog delay to begin the day, the field of 15 teams took to the course for round one of the three-round tournament.

Individually, senior Maria Ronderos finished round one in 30th place with a five-over par 77, while junior Patricia Arana’s 79 showing gave Miami’s second-best competitor a 43rd place finish going into round two.

Miami’s 330 (+42) team performance left the ‘Canes trailing all teams with their closest competitor 11 strokes ahead at the end of round one.

Round two brought better play from the Hurricanes as Maria Ronderos shot a one-under par 71 to earn an overall, two-round score of 148 (+4) and elevate her standing to a three-way tie for ninth place alongside James Madison’s Ginger Mak and East Tennessee State’s Nina Muehl.

A pair of ‘Canes, in Patricia Arana and Christina Hirano, tied for 41st with a 157 (+13) tally after the second round. Diana Fisher rounded out the Miami team with a 183 (+39) score.

Overall, the Hurricanes ended round two at 635 (+59) to end the day at 15th overall. The University of Notre Dame led all competition after two rounds with a 591 (+15) team mark.

Tee time for round three of the John Kirk/Panther Intercollegiate is slated for 9 a.m., tomorrow, March 22, 2011.
