Christina Hirano (73) leads `Canes in Opening Round at JMU Eagle Landing Invitational

FIRST ROUND RESULTS

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – Senior Christina Hirano shot one-over par 73 to lead UMiami in the first round of the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational on Friday afternoon. The Hurricanes (+18) are tied for sixth as a squad in the 18-team event at Eagle Landing Golf Club just outside of Jacksonville.

Hirano tied her season-low round of the year earning a tie for sixth place amongst individuals. The highlight of her day was an eagle on the par five fifth hole. It was the only eagle registered on the course all day by any player. The California native also added two birdies in her round. 

Classmate Maria Ronderos carded one birdie on the day on her way to a three-over par 75, tied for 13th position.

Junior Patricia Arana brought in the third-best score for the `Canes with a 77, right at her stroke average for the spring.

Freshman Carina Cuculiza and junior Diana Fisher rounded out the Miami scores with rounds of 81 and 96, respectively on Friday.

The tournament, hosted by James Madison University, is currently led by Chattanooga (+8) through the first of three rounds. Briana Carlson of Florida Gulf Coast leads the player leaderboard at -2.

Diana Fisher will be the first one out on the course for the Hurricanes on Saturday morning at 8:08 a.m. The rest of the team will follow in intervals, playing in groups with golfers from USF and James Madison.
