BLACKSBURG, Va. – The University of Miami track and field team saw Devon Hill and Tarika Williams win conference titles in the final day of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Virginia Tech’s Rector Field House on Saturday.

Hill crossed the finish line in 60m hurdles in 7.76 seconds, winning the championship .02 seconds faster than he did a season ago. The win is the third consecutive 60m hurdle title for the Hurricanes as Cory Nelms won the event in 2009.

“Devon ran a solid race against a strong hurdle field and defended his ACC title,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “This will give him momentum going into the NCAA Championships in two weeks.”

Sprinter Tarika Williams won the 200m dash final in 23.27 seconds, a new personal-best mark that ranks behind only former Miami greats Lauryn Williams and Murielle Ahoure in the school record book.

Williams also finished fourth in the 60m dash at 7.36 seconds, while Alyssa McClure finished fifth in 7.42 seconds.

Kyla Buckley earned her first All-ACC honor as she placed third in the shot put with a toss of 15.38m (50-05.50). The mark was a personal-best and ranks as the fifth-longest in school history.

In Friday’s action, Miranda Wilson set a personal-best of her own in the weight throw, reaching a mark of 19.32m (63-04.50).

“I am extremely proud of Tarika, Miranda and Kyla for big lifetime-bests in their events,” added Deem. “We always want our best performances to be in the championships and they did that this weekend.”

Takecia Jameson scored in the 200m dash as well, placing fifth in 24.01 seconds. The senior also placed fifth in the 60m hurdles in 8.35 seconds – the fastest time of her career – earning four points to the `Canes overall score.

Ti’erra Brown earned All-ACC status in the 400m dash as she was the runner-up with a personal-best time of 53.25 seconds. Freshman Thandi Stewart placed seventh in 54.73 seconds.

Brown also led the 4×400 relay to a fourth place finish at 3:39.10. She was joined by Jennifer Estime, Jameson and Alyssa McClure.

As a team, the `Canes finished in fifth place with 65 points, as Clemson claimed the team championship with 152.

“The women stepped up and competed hard this weekend,” concluded Deem. “We want to build on this for the outdoor season where we hope to compete at full strength.”

For the men, Lamar Miller and Travis Benjamin finished fifth and sixth in the men’s 60m dash final with times of 6.78 and 6.79 respectively.

As a squad, the men finished 10th, with Virginia Tech earning the team victory.
