Miami's Greg Kaczka Breaks School Record in Indoor Mile

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore Greg Kaczka broke the school record in the indoor mile run to lead the Hurricanes in the first day of the University of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational held inside the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Kaczka completed the mile trek in 4:14.66, breaking Dan Acosta’s 12 year-old record of 4:15.59. The Glen Allen, Va. native was among the Hurricanes top cross country runners in the fall, showing steady improvement in each race.

Junior Devon Hill fell just 0.01 seconds shy of advancing to the 60m hurdle final with a time of 7.90 seconds. However, the school record holder won the consolation final in 7.83 seconds. Earlier in the day, Hill ran a 7.83 second race in the preliminary round.

In her first individual event of the season, Ti’erra Brown completed the 400m dash in 53.62 seconds, good for seventh place and just 0.28 seconds off of her career-best time in the event.

Freshman Nicole Cummings reached her early collegiate-best mark in the long jump, reaching 6.07m (19-11.00) and placing third in a field of 37 jumpers.

Jennifer Estime ran a new personal-best time of 2:12.72 in the 800m run, placing sixth in the 30-woman field.

Veteran thrower Miranda Wilson led a trio of Hurricanes in the weight throw, finishing in second place with a mark of 18.34m (60-02.00). Kyla Buckley and Ashley Holmes had marks of 16.37m (53-08.50) and 16.09m (52-09.50) respectively.

Tomorrow’s field events begin at 12 p.m. CST with the running events to start an hour later.
