BLACKSBURG, Va. – Miami’s Devon Hill continued his torrid start to the 2011 season Friday at the Virginia Tech Elite inside the Rector Field House. The junior battled a challenging field on his way to breaking his own school record in the 60m hurdles.

Hill came into this weekend undefeated in the 60m hurdles and he didn’t disappoint. The junior broke his own school record with the best time in the field in the prelims at 7.76 seconds, then the Trenton, N.J. native smashed the record again with a time of 7.71 seconds. The meet record-breaking time gave him his third straight victory to open the season.

“Devon is hurdling with a tremendous amount of confidence this season,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “He beat a field that included the top hurdlers in the ACC and not only broke his school record, but the meet record as well.”

In her senior season, Miranda Wilson continues to improve. With a toss of 18.83m (61-09.50) in the weight throw, Wilson reached a new personal-best and the third-best mark in school history.

With her third place finish in the 60m hurdles, senior Takecia Jameson set a new personal-best, crossing the finish line in 8.36 seconds.

After moving into fifth place on Miami’s all-time list a week ago, Tarika Williams finished in third place in the 60m dash – just .02 seconds offer her personal-best time at 7.40 seconds. Senior Ashley Dukes finished right behind Williams in fourth place at 7.43 seconds.

Freshman Nicole Cummings leapt a season-best 5.86m (19-02.75) in the long jump, placing seventh in a field of 32 jumpers.

Another freshman, Thandi Stewart, placed third in the 400m dash at 55.15 seconds.

On Saturday, field events start things off at 11 a.m. with the women’s high jump featuring Miami’s Megan Novinger. The women’s distance medley relay will be the first running event of the day, getting underway at 1 p.m.
