Thomas Leads 'Canes Past Stetson

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — (AP) Adrian Thomas scored 13 points and Malcolm Grant added 11 to lead a balanced attack for the Miami Hurricanes in a 68-54 win over Stetson on Sunday.

Durand Scott chipped in nine points for Miami(7-2), which has won five straight and improved to 6-0 at home this season with the victory.

Miami went on a 17-3 run in a seven-minute span in the first half to take a 25-14 lead and never looked back. During the pivotal run, Thomas scored eight points including a pair of 3-pointers.

Thomas finished with three threes to climb into UM’s top 10 in career three-pointers, tying Kevin Norris (1994-98) with 134.He needs just two to move into a tie for ninth place with current assistant coach Jake Morton (1988-93).

The Hurricanes took a 31-20 lead and opened the second half with a 22-5 run to take a commanding 53-25 advantage following a three-pointer by Rion Brown.

Miami shot 42.3 percent (22 of 52) from the floor compared to Stetson, which shot 41.2 percent (21 of 51).

Miami didn’t score a fast-break point but it outscored Stetson 19-6 on second-chance points.

The Hurricanes have won eight straight in the series by an average of 21.3 points.

Stetson (3-5) was led by Ridge Graham, who scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Big Time Big Man
Junior forward Julian Gamble, making his fourth straight start, dropped in six points, his second highest total of the season, while grabbing a season-high seven rebounds.

Thomas for Three
Senior Adrian Thomas, who led the ACC in three-point field goal percentage last season, went 3-of-6 from behind the arc, and has now hit a three-pointer in 51 of his last 57 games. Thomas now has 134 career three pointers made, tying him with Kevin Norris for 10th most in program history. Just two more and Thomas will tie assistant coach Jake Morton for ninth on the all-time list. Thomas finished with a team-high 13 points, his fourth-straight game in double figures.

Solid Defense
Miami held the Hatters to just 20 points in the first half, the fewest they have allowed in the first half all season. Miami also forced a season-high tying 18 turnovers.The Hurricanes also forced 18 turnovers in the season opening win over Jacksonville (11/12).

From Garrius, With Love
Sophomore Garrius Adams, who made his fourth straight start today, recorded five assists, giving him 21 on the year, two more than he had all of last year (19).
