Purvis Earns Track and Field News Top Honor

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Ashton Purvis has earned yet another national award as she was named the Track and Field News 2010 High School Athlete of the Year. The Oakland, Calif. native has already been named the ESPN RISE and Gatorade Athlete of the Year.
The national half-lap leader at 22.90 and No. 2 in the 100 (by 0.01) at 11.17, Purvis also ran away with High School Girls Athlete Of The Year honors, as recounted in the December edition of Track & Field News.
In the 200, the 18-year-old Purvis won at Arcadia, repeated her Cal State title and then won the U.S. Junior crown by nearly 0.3.
Over 100, she won at Arcadia and State before taking 2nd at the U.S. Juniors behind a college sprinter.
Purvis received 180 of a possible 190 points to easily win the title
