Morgan, Moss and Wayne headline UM Hall of Fame Class of `11

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The UM Sports Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2011 on Monday and it’s headlined by LB Dan Morgan and WRs Reggie Wayne and Santana Moss.

The others are baseball’s Bobby Hill, NCAA track champion Yolanda McCray, NCAA diving champion Tyce Routson, All-American and Olympic diver Daphne Jongejans-Bousquet and former women’s tennis coach Ian Duvenhage.

The induction banquet will be held in the spring at the UM Hall of Fame, located next to the Hecht Athletic Center.

Here is some info from the UM Hall of Fame on the 2011 inductees:

Ian Duvenhage – Women’s Tennis Coach (1982-1988)
Coached UM Women’s tennis team to seven consecutive NCAA appearances with a career dual match record of 131-44 (.749 pct.)…was named 1986 Wilson Intercollegiate Coach of the Year…coached 18 All-Americans and 3 UM Hall of Famers (Lise Gregory, Ros Riach, Ronnie Reis)…1985 team reached NCAA Finals and had a school record 29-6 in dual matches…In `85, coached Ronnie Reis and Lise Gregory to ITA National Indoor Doubles Championship, and in 1986, the pair captured Miami’s first ever NCAA doubles title…team finished ranked #2 in both `85 and `86…in `87, team finished ranked #3, even though they lost in 1st round of NCAA’s…Ian is currently the men’s tennis coach at Vanderbilt.

Bobby Hill – Baseball (1997-1999)
Miami career leader in stolen bases (139), 2nd in runs scored (240), 3rd in career hit by pitch…named first team All-American by the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association (NCBWA) in 1998 and 1999…member of the 1998 U.S. National Team…scored school record 87 runs and had .404 batting average in 1998…led 1999 National Champions with .391 batting average…holds freshman record with 41 stolen bases…has career .360 average…is also in Miami top ten in career hits (253) and career walks (166)…2nd round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs…played 4 years in MLB…Bobby currently lives in California.

Daphne Jongejans – Bousquet-Women’s Diving (1985-1988)
An 8 time All-American diver (4 times each 1-meter and 3-meter springboards)…Daphne came to Miami from her native country, The Netherlands, after making a splash at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics…named the 1986 National Indoor Championships Outstanding female Diver…finished in top 4 seven times in her 4 years competing at the NCAA’s in the 1 and 3-meter events…she competed in the 3-meter springboard at the Olympics in 1984 (Los Angeles), 1988 (Seoul) and 1992 (Barcelona)…in Seoul, she led the competition half way through, before falling to 8th place, her highest finish in the Olympics…her brother Edwin was also a UM diver…now lives in Atlanta with husband and two children and runs a marketing company.

Dan Morgan — Football (1997-2000)
Was the first player to win the Butkis Award (top linebacker), the Nagurski Award (college defensive player of the year). and the Bednarik Award (top defensive player) in the same season…named a CONSENSUS first team All-American…a unanimous selection as BIG EAST Defensive Player of the year…a three-time first team All-BIG EAST selection…set a Miami career record for tackles with 532…a first round selection (11th overall) by the Carolina panthers in the 2001 NFL draft…played 7 seasons for the Panthers…one Pro Bowl selection.

Santana Moss — Football (1997-2000)
Miami career leader in all-purpose yards (4,402), receiving yards (2,546), punt return yards (1,196) and punt return touchdowns (6)…holds NCAA record with 4 punt returns for touchdowns in 2000…holds school record for punt return yards in a season (655 in `00)…tied for school record with 3 TD’s in a game (vs. Rutgers `98)…named 2000 BIG EAST Offensive player and Special Teams player of the year, the only player in league history to win both awards…a unanimous all-BIG EAST first team in 2000, also selected in 1999…finished 7th in Heisman balloting in `00…First team All-American in 2000…also named 2000 BIG EAST Outstanding Field Performer for winning the conference Long Jump and triple Jump titles… first round selection(16th overall) by the New York Jets in the 2001 NFL draft, he currently plays for the Washington Redskins.

Tyce Routson – Men’s Diving (1995-1997, 2000)
One of the most acclaimed divers in Miami history…a 4-time NCAA diving champion (3-meter springboard 1995 & 1997; 10-meter platform 1997 & 2000)…an ELEVEN time All-American…in 1995 he received the honor in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards…in 1996 & 1997, he earned the honor in 1-meter, 3-meter AND platform…Tyce took a 2 year sabbatical and returned to Miami in 2000 and received All-American honors again in the three categories ! He currently lives near Phoenix.

Reggie Wayne – Football (1997-2000)
One of Miami’s most consistent and reliable receiver’s…career leader in total receptions (173), a close second to Santana Moss in career yards receiving (2,510) and tied for 3rd in career touchdowns (20)…holds school record for consecutive games with a reception with 36 games…holds school freshman record with 48 receptions…tied for 2nd in touchdowns in a season (10 in 2000)…1st round pick (30th overall) by the Colts in the 2001 draft…currently in his 10th season…with 4 Pro Bowl selections.

Yolanda McCray – Women’s Track (1995-1999)
1999 NCAA 100-meter hurdles champion…six time All-American honors, ranking 2nd on UM’s all-time list…won seven BIG EAST titles (6 individual, 1 team)…two-time BIG EAST Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Athlete (1997 and 1999), one of only 2 women to win the award twice in conference history…left Miami holding six school records including the 60-meters (7.46) 60-meter hurdles (8.04), 100-meter hurdles (12.78), indoor 4×400 meter relay, outdoor 4×400 meter relay and the shuttle hurdle relay….currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
