Ronderos in Fifth after Day 1 at Waterlefe Invitational

BRADENTON, Fla. – Senior Maria Ronderos shot a pair of 73’s and sits in a tie for fifth at two-over par to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team after the first day of the USF Waterlefe Invitational hosted by USF at the Waterlefe Golf Club Monday.
Nova Southeastern currently leads the 19-team field at 16-over par 592. Daytona State College (595), USF (608), Middle Tennessee State (610) and Southern Miss (612) all placed in the top five. Miami is 15th after shooting 642.
Ronderos continued to play well for the Hurricanes during the fall season. She shot one-over par 73 in each of her rounds. In round one, she recorded three birdies while shooting even par 36 on the front nine and one-over par on the back nine. In round two, she birdied four times, shot two-under par 34 on the front nine and three-over par 39 on back nine.
Freshman Carina Cuculiza and senior Christina Hirano each are tied for 65th after both shooting 19-over par. Cuculiza posted an 80 in round one and an 83 in the second round. She made par on 10 of 18 holes in the first round and shot three-over par 39 on the back nine. In her second round, she birdied once and made par eight times. Hirano’s best score of the day came in the second round when she shot six-over par 78. She had a pair of birdies and made par eight times.
Sophomore walk-one Melanie Kleiner shot 84 in round one and 95 in round two to finish off the `Canes scoring. Junior walk-on Diana Fisher shot her tournament best of an 86 in the second round.
Miami wraps up play at the Waterlefe Classic on Tuesday. The `Canes will tee off at 8:30 a.m. in a shotgun start.
