Ronderos' Top 15 Finish Paces Women's Golf

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Maria Ronderos posted her first top 15 finish of the season and ninth of her career finishing tied for 11th to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team on the final day of the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic hosted by UNCG Greensboro at Bryan Park Players Course Tuesday. Inclement weather shortened the tournament to two rounds.
East Carolina and NC State shared the team title both finishing with a two-day total of 595. Western Carolina (603), Maryland (603) and Penn State (604) all placed in the top five. Miami finished 12th after shooting 626.
Ronderos bested her first-day total by a stroke shooting two-over par 74 Wednesday. She finished five-over par 149 for the tournament. She birdied three times on the front nine and was two-under before shooting four-over par on the back nine. She made par 12 times.
Senior Christina Hirano placed in the top 40 as she tied for 37th. She shot 79 in her final round. She made par on 10 of the 18 holes. Freshman Carina Cuculiza shot 80 in her final round which included making par on 11 of the 18 holes.
Sophomore walk-on Melanie Kleiner also shot 80 and junior walk-on Diana Fisher shot 86 for the Hurricanes. Kleiner birdied a career-best three times in a round.
Miami returns to action this coming weekend Oct. 4-5 at the Waterlefe Classic hosted by USF in Bradenton, Fla.
