Three `Canes in Top 20 after Day 1 of UNCG Fall Classic

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors Maria Ronderos, Christina Hirano and freshman Carina Cuculiza all shot in the mid 70’s and currently sit in the top 20 to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team on the first day of the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic hosted by UNCG Greensboro at Bryan Park Players Course Sunday.
NC State and Maryland are tied for the lead after each shooting 14-over par 302. Western Carolina (305), East Tennessee State (308) and Penn State (308) also are in the top five. Miami is 10th after shooting 313.
Ronderos shot three-over par 75 in her opening round. She birdied twice and finished one-over on the front nine and two-over par on the back nine. She made par on 11 of the 18 holes and sits tied for 12th going into the second round.
Hirano and Cuculiza each shot five-over par 77 to pace the Hurricanes. Hirano also picked up a pair of birdies. Cuculiza made par on 12 of the 18 holes.
Sophomore walk-on Melanie Kleiner shot 84 and junior walk-on Diana Fisher shot 89 for the Hurricanes.
Play at the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic resumes Monday with the second round.
