Lamar Miller Named ACC Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C.– University of Miami freshman running back Lamar Miller was named ACC Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Miller led the Hurricanes with 122 all-purpose yards in his debut against Florida A&M on Sept. 2. He paced Miami’s rushing game with 65 yards on 11 carries and scored his first career touchdown with a 5-yard run in the third quarter. He added 34 yards on kick returns, 15 yards on punt returns and eight receiving yards.
The Miami native and Killian High School graduate was one of eight players honored by the ACC for their performances last week. North Carolina’s T.J. Yates was named Offensive Back of the Week after throwing for 412 yards and three touchdowns against LSU, while Maryland’s Kenny Tate was named Defensive Back of the Week after he he stopped Navy’s Ricky Dobbs on a fourth-and-goal from the 1 with 34 seconds remaining to give the Terps the victory.
Miller is the first ‘Cane to earn ACC Rookie of the Week honors since Jacory Harris was recognized on Nov. 3, 2008 after throwing the game-tying and game-winning TD passes in Miami’s 24-17 overtime win at Virginia that year.
