Miami's Purvis Earns ESPN RISE Top Honor

Ashton Purvis, a member of the Hurricanes’ impressive freshmen class has been named the 2009-2010 ESPN RISE DyeStat Girls Athlete of the Year.
In July, Purvis was named the Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year. The Oakland, Calif. native claimed the prestigious award over 457,000 high school female track and field athletes nationwide.
“Ashton had a tremendous senior year and we are very excited about her future as a Miami Hurricane. She has received many honors this season and is very deserving,” said Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Amy Deem. “She has maintained a level of consistency for her entire high school career.”
The Miami women finished the 2010 outdoor season with a No. 11 overall ranking and return the most talented hurdles group in the nation, with Ti’erra Brown, Tameka and Takecia Jameson heading into their senior seasons.
