Brown, Jameson Win Gold at NACAC Championships

MIRAMAR, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Ti’erra Brown won the 400m hurdles title and teammate Tameka Jameson anchored the gold medal-winning 4×400 relay team at the North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) U-23 Championships , Sunday at the Ansin Sports Complex .

Jameson also took silver in the 400m hurdles behind Brown. The times of 55.14 and 55.97 seconds were the second-best efforts of each woman’s career.

The gold was the second of the championships for Brown. The Hampton, Va. native claimed the 100m title in a time of 12.86 seconds on Friday.

Jameson, a native of Upper Marlboro, Md. earned the silver in her first international competition. Later in the night she ran the anchor leg of the winning 4×100 relay in a time of 3:29.80. She along with Ebony Collins, Amber Purvis and Shelise Williams won by almost nine seconds of the Jamaican squad.

“Both Tameka and Ti’erra ran strong races and finished their season strong,” said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “The NACAC Championship is a great experience and it will help them in their preparations for next season.”

Brown a five-time All-America honoree, is the third ranked American in the 400m hurdles this year with a season-best time of 54.74 seconds and she won the USA Championship in the event in late June. Jameson is tied for seventh at 55.73 seconds. Each woman’s top-time came at the NCAA Preliminary Round held in Greensboro, N.C. in May.

In the 400m hurdle NCAA final Brown was the runner-up for the second straight year at 55.22 seconds and Jameson placed third at 56.37 seconds.

The NACAC Championships featured 26 nations and 462 athletes.
