Hurricanes Claim Three All-America Honors in 400m Hurdles

June 11, 2010

EUGENE, Ore. –  Ti’erra Brown, Tameka Jameson and Takecia Jameson each earned All-America accolades Friday night in the 400m hurdle national championship race at the University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

The trio made history on the night, becoming the first three women from the same university to race in the finals of the 400m hurdles. Brown, who was the national runner-up in the 60m hurdles during the indoor season earlier this year, placed second once again. Her time of 55.22 seconds was the second-fastest of her career.

Tameka Jameson placed third in 56.37 seconds, the second-fastest time of her career as well. Her twin sister Takecia placed seventh at 58.33 seconds.

“I’m extremely proud of our 400m hurdles. We have had a goal all season for all three to make the final, said Director of Track and Field Amy Deem. “It was exciting to watch them compete so well today. This bodes well going into next year with all of them returning for their senior year.”

Since Deem arrived at Miami in 1990, she has coached her student-athletes to 150 All-America honors.

Before the 400m hurdles final, the No. 13 Hurricane women had yet to score a team point. After the event they had 16 team points and had moved into a fourth place tie with Oregon. Southern Illinois leads the way with 22 points.

Brown, who is also the second-ranked woman in the 100m hurdles, will compete in the event’s final Saturday at 2:09 p.m. EST.

Also competing in the meet’s final day will be sophomore Brittni Finch in the long jump. The Dallas native collected All-America honors in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor National Championships in March. At the East Preliminary Round, Finch easily surpassed her career-best mark, with a leap of 6.43m (21-01.25).

Live results from the NCAA Championships will be available at flashresults.com through all four days of action. Daily recaps will be available at hurricanesports.com.

CBS will televise the final two hours of the meet live from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday. In addition, other than when CBS/CBS College Sports is on the air, there will be a live web cast of the championships available at www.NCAA.com.
